The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Khwaja Yunus Ali University (KYAU) celebrated World DNA Day 2026 with the theme “Understanding DNA and its Role in Today’s Science.” The day-long program featured a colorful rally and a series of science-based competitions, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere across the campus.

 

The event began with a lively rally that paraded through different routes of the campus. This was followed by several academic competitions, including biology and biochemistry quizzes, essay writing, and scientific debate. Students actively participated, demonstrating their creativity, analytical thinking, and scientific knowledge.

 

The honourable Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Asraf Ali was present as the chief guest. He emphasized that such academic and creative initiatives play a vital role in enriching students’ knowledge and intellectual development. Special guest Professor Emeritus Dr. Hossain Reza highlighted the significance of DNA, stating that all the mysteries of life are embedded within it, and uncovering those mysteries remains the core mission of scientific research.

 

Additional remarks were delivered by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Mostofa Mahmud Hasan, faculty member Dr. Ranjit Kumar Saha, and the Head of the Department Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam. They stressed that alterations in DNA are linked to many complex human diseases, making awareness and research in this field increasingly important.

The Treasurer, Registrar, faculty members, and students participated enthusiastically. Volunteers from the departmental Cell & Gene Club played a crucial role in organizing and successfully executing the program.

The organizers expressed hope that such initiatives will continue to inspire scientific awareness and foster a research-oriented mindset among students, in line with the global significance of understanding DNA in modern science.
