Mohammad Hasibul Hassan, a 3rd-year, 2nd-semester student of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Khwaja Yunus Ali University, successfully completed a 5-day hands-on training programme at Human Genetics Research and Training Center Limited (HGRTC), Dhaka.

The training provided intensive practical exposure to key laboratory techniques in medical diagnostics and molecular biology. Participants gained experience in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, and ELISA, with a strong emphasis on polymerase chain reaction.

The program began with foundational sessions on clinical biochemistry and haematology, covering routine diagnostic tests and automated analysers. In microbiology, students practised aseptic techniques, culture methods, and pathogen identification. ELISA sessions enhanced understanding of antigen–antibody detection and its diagnostic applications.

The highlight of the training was the comprehensive PCR module, where participants learned both theoretical concepts—such as gene expression, mutations, and qPCR—and hands-on molecular workflows. This included DNA/RNA extraction, master mix preparation, thermal cycling, and agarose gel electrophoresis. Students also developed skills in data analysis, interpretation of amplification curves, and troubleshooting.

Overall, the program effectively bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world laboratory applications, strengthening technical competencies and preparing participants for future careers in biotechnology, research, and healthcare diagnostics.
