Khwaja Yunus Ali University (KYAU), Bangladesh, and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia, held a fruitful online meeting on 8 July 2026 to explore and strengthen opportunities for academic, research, and institutional collaboration.

The meeting was led by Prof. Dr. Med. Mohammed Nazmul Ahsan Mallik, International Affairs Advisor, KYAU; Mr. F. M. Javed Ahmed Shamrat, Head of the Department of CSE; and Mr. Md. Matiur Rahman, Head of the Department of Medical Physics. Representatives from UniMAP also participated in the meeting and engaged in a constructive discussion on potential areas of mutual cooperation.

A key outcome of the meeting was significant progress toward finalizing a General Agreement between the two institutions. The proposed framework includes student and faculty mobility, Dual Degree Programs (DDP), Joint Master Programs (JMP), joint research, academic exchange, and international conference collaboration.

Both sides expressed their agreement in principle on teacher mobility and student mobility under DDP and JMP. It was also discussed that students completing these programs would receive certificates from both universities, while KYAU students joining UniMAP would benefit from full credit transfer.

The meeting further explored opportunities for joint research projects and publications, online lectures by faculty members from both universities, and industrial attachment opportunities for Bangladeshi students studying under DDP and JMP. Arrangements for postgraduate supervision were also discussed, including the possibility of involving KYAU faculty members as supervisors for Master’s theses and field supervisors for PhD students.

Curriculum alignment was another important area of discussion. The KYAU CSE undergraduate program may be adjusted to align with UniMAP’s Computer Engineering program, while opportunities for KYAU CSE students to pursue UniMAP’s Data Science program were also explored. Broader collaboration opportunities involving EEE, Mechatronics Engineering, ICT, and Medical Physics will be further examined by KYAU.

The two universities also agreed in principle to organize a jointly hosted conference at KYAU. KYAU proposed accommodation support for DDP, JMP, and staff mobility participants, with a reciprocal arrangement from UniMAP proposed for consideration.

The meeting concluded with an agreement in principle to sign the final General Agreement at UniMAP. The collaboration is expected to open new avenues for international academic exchange, joint research, student mobility, and collaborative degree programs, further strengthening KYAU’s commitment to global academic engagement.
